Our client is seeking an experienced Principal Mechanical Engineer to manage significant multi-disciplinary projects, applying your mechanical engineering abilities to create innovative designs and implement sophisticated technologies into new products.
Type of work undertaken by the group: The Power Products Group specialises in the design and development of electrical products for high volume manufacture. Typical products range from the design of novel consumer appliances, precision surgical tools and electric vehicle drives. Combined with highly creative lateral thinking with excellent technical skills and a broad base of industry experience to form a powerful development team. Work ranges from undertaking complete product developments from concept to market, to consulting with our clients on their technology, strategy or development processes. Specific responsibilities: You will be taking the lead role in planning, proposal generation, liaison with clients, management of a team of 2 - 6 people and hands-on product development. You will also use your strong technical skills to make a significant contribution to development projects and to participate in consultancy work within client companies.
Minimum requirements: To meet the demanding requirements of this role you will have an excellent first degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline. You should also have 5 or more years of industrial experience in product development, with a proven ability to manage a team of engineers and technicians. There should be evidence of excellence within the work you have been responsible for. You will have a creative approach to problem solving and concept generation, an appreciation of the use of engineering analysis in product development and have had hands-on experience of 3D CAD, rapid prototyping, some FEA or CFD. Direct experience of product development in the consumer product or automotive industries would be beneficial, including knowledge of high volume manufacturing processes, electromechanical technology and six sigma quality systems.
